Building Performance Modeling

Energy Modeling

Code Compliance Energy Modeling
Our studio excels in code compliance energy modeling across California, Washington State, and all states adhering to the International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) or ASHRAE 90.1 Standards. We initiate these models as early as the Schematic Design or Design Development phases, ensuring that critical energy conservation measures are prioritized and smoothly integrated into both the design and project budget.

LEED Energy Modeling
We are proficient in creating energy models that meet the LEED Optimize Energy Performance credit requirements and collaborate closely with the design team and LEED Administrator throughout the certification process to achieve the targeted number of points. Our team stays informed on the latest alternative compliance paths, allowing us to efficiently evaluate and implement these methodologies to maximize LEED points.

Daylight/Glare Analysis

Our daylight and glare analyses are designed to evaluate façade schemes, balancing the benefits of daylight and passive solar heating with the need to minimize unwanted solar gains and glare. These simulations meet the requirements for the LEED Daylight credit.

Solar Radiation Studies

We develop solar radiation studies to optimize photovoltaic system placement by evaluating the impact of surrounding obstructions. These studies are also valuable in the conceptual design phase, where they help compare and refine architectural massing schemes.

Airflow and Comfort Analysis

Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Analysis
To aid in the selection and design of mechanical systems for complex spaces, we employ Computational Fluid Dynamics to gain a detailed understanding of airflow patterns and temperature distributions within spaces.

Natural Ventilation & Thermal Comfort Analysis
Our team has extensive experience in analyzing natural ventilation strategies, including both wind-driven and buoyancy-driven approaches, to assess their impact on thermal comfort and energy efficiency.

Additional Building Performance Analysis Services

Life-Cycle Assessment (LCA)
We are equipped to conduct life-cycle assessments that comply with the new CALGreen Mandatory Measures for Embodied Carbon Reduction. Utilizing state-of-the-art LCA software, we provide guidance on material selections and structural system alternatives from the project’s inception and continually assess embodied carbon impacts throughout the design process.

LEED Administration & Documentation
We have successfully served as the LEED Administrator on numerous LEED Silver and Gold Certified projects. Leveraging our extensive project experience, we draft detailed checklists and diligently track credit items across all disciplines throughout the certification process. Our in-depth knowledge of the trade-offs between LEED versions 4 and 4.1, along with experience in pursuing innovation and pilot points, ensures a streamlined certification journey.

Mechanical System Right-Sizing & Evaluation, Total Cost of Ownership Analysis
In collaboration with the mechanical design team, we perform load calculations to right-size air- and water-side equipment – a crucial step for decarbonization projects involving heat recovery chillers. We use these models to compare the energy and carbon impacts of various system options early in the design process and assess their financial feasibility through total cost of ownership analysis.

UC Riverside Student
Success Center

UC Riverside’s new Student Success Center is more than a 62,000 SF hub for collaboration and learning—it’s a showcase of building performance engineering. Our team integrated advanced modeling techniques and innovative mechanical solutions to minimize loads, right-size equipment, and improve energy efficiency. From indirect evaporative cooling in lecture halls to modular heat recovery systems, every strategy was designed to lower EUI while supporting student comfort and wellness.

Certified LEED Gold and honored with multiple national awards, the center reflects how performance-driven design can create a healthy, sustainable environment for students to thrive.
