P2S Lighting
Studio & Solutions

About the Studio

The P2S Lighting Studio is a dedicated team of lighting designers within P2S. Guided by the ethos that every space tells a story, and light helps bring that story to life, we bring a specialized focus to the art and science of light.

As 9x Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA) award winners, we create solutions that enhance architecture, support human experience, and respond to the unique goals of each project. We work alongside architects, owners, and project teams to integrate light as a fundamental design element, one that influences how a space is perceived, experienced, and remembered.

From concept through construction, we provide integrated lighting design services including lighting concepts and layouts, fixture selection, photometric analysis, lighting controls design, daylighting strategies, and energy code compliance. By combining creative vision with technical expertise, we deliver lighting solutions that enhance architecture, elevate the user experience, and perform beautifully.

Our Process

Behind every lighting design is a process of discovery. We begin by understanding the project's vision, the character of the architecture, and the needs of the people who will experience the space every day. From concept sketches to fixture selection, photometric studies, renders and detailed documentation, each decision builds upon the last. By bringing a balanced blend of creativity and function, we craft environments where light feels natural, purposeful, and seamlessly integrated.

CSUN Maple Hall

Featured Project

The three-story California State University Northridge – Maple Hall comprises lecture halls, seminar rooms, and classrooms. In response to its whimsical, curving architectural charm, the lighting design prioritizes maintaining visual continuity between interior and exterior and allowing the natural beauty of the space to take center stage.

The exterior canopies serve as a transitional zone, introducing hemispherical light fixtures that guide the users into the grand atrium. Inside, a series of ring fixtures illuminate the space, mirroring the building's curves and blurring the distinction between indoor and outdoor areas. Linear fixtures illuminate staircases and other transitional spaces, creating a captivating interplay between organic forms and geometric lighting elements. Noteworthy features within the building, such as collaboration rooms, are adorned with mountain range murals and accentuated by carefully selected light fixtures and finishes that complement the space. Within the staircase structure, the luminaires are integrated to create an illuminated effect resembling a glowing box.

The building operates within stringent energy consumption parameters, utilizing less than 85% of the standard design energy budget for indoor lighting. Integrated sensors are pre-configured to comply with energy consumption regulations, such as vacancy detection, daylight harvesting, demand response capabilities, and energy savings reporting. With a commitment to sustainability, the building is designed for LEED Gold standard certification.

P2S Seattle Office

Featured Project

At the P2S office in Seattle, the journey begins with the color-changing light fixtures in the elevator lobby, guiding visitors seamlessly into the reception area and establishing a tone for the entire office. Soft and inviting pendant mount downlights, complemented by the earthy furniture and interior design, contribute to the warm ambiance of the reception area.

Combined with the abundance of natural light, the open-plan office is illuminated with suspended linear open aperture direct/indirect luminaires. These fixtures utilize optics that eliminate any visible images of the LED point source, effectively reducing glare throughout the office space. Similarly, collaboration areas utilize linear minimalist fixtures that blend with office aesthetics ensuring a cohesive and unified appearance throughout the space.

Circulation areas are thoughtfully illuminated with direct/indirect downlights that promote spontaneous and impromptu conversations. Narrow hallways are enhanced by wall washers, creating a bright spatial impression. Variations in lighting stimulate creativity and inspiration, particularly evident in the lounge area where custom accent lighting adds a playful dimension, contrasting with the uniform brightness of the workstations. In the library, recessed linear pattern fixtures ensure shadow-free illumination, preventing eye fatigue and maintaining concentration.

Little Company of
Mary Medical Center Legacy Suites

Featured Project

Little Company of Mary Medical Center Legacy Suites is a renovation that reimagines the patient care environment through a hospitality-inspired lighting approach. Designed to create a warm, welcoming atmosphere, the lighting enhances patient rooms, nurse stations, corridors, dining areas, family lounges, and support spaces while balancing visual comfort, functionality, and the clinical needs of the healthcare setting.

Patient rooms are illuminated with multiple layers of light that adapt to a variety of activities throughout the day. A softly backlit headwall provides a calming architectural focal point, complemented by dedicated examination lighting, visitor lighting, closet lighting, and ambient illumination that can be tailored to both caregivers and patients. The result is a comfortable, residential environment that promotes rest and well-being.

In the corridors, narrow profile recessed linear luminaires trace the curved ceiling geometry, highlighting the wall finishes while providing gentle, low-glare illumination for patients. At each patient room entrance, cove and toe-kick lighting work alongside decorative wall sconces to define the portal and create a welcoming transition. At the nurse station, a continuous curved linear luminaire wraps the reception counter, accent lighting highlights featured artwork, and low-glare recessed downlights provide balanced ambient illumination, reinforcing the project's overall goal of delivering a refined, hospitality-inspired healthcare environment.
