  • Project Overview

East Los Angeles College (ELAC) has a rich history serving as a gateway to success to its Monterey Park community. The new, 144,000 SF Science Career and Mathematics Complex affirms to ELAC students that the institution is still very much committed to their success. And with a LEED Silver certification, the project also affirms ELAC’s and the Los Angeles County Community College District’s (LACCD) commitment to sustainable practices.

  • Solution

The $79 million Science and Math complex comprises of one new and two renovated buildings. The complex is home to the college’s Chemistry, Life Sciences, Mathematics, Physics, Biology and Anthropology/Earth Sciences departments. Our design prioritized efficiency and environmental friendliness, using a creative mix of strategies like daylight dimming controls, sun-controlled windows and optimized wall and roof insulation to easily qualify for LEED Silver certification. The complex’s central plaza provides students with a vibrant communal area for activities and relaxation in beautiful green spaces.
