Project Overview
Cal State Monterey Bay’s new 70,000 SF Otter Student Union will replace a parking lot next to the current Student Center at the corner of Inter Garrison and 5th Avenue. The $40 million building aims to be the new heart of the seaside campus and it will contain a cross cultural center, fluid activity spaces, group study rooms, lounges, meditation room, dining, bookstore, coffee shop and anything else a student may need. The student government will move into new administrative and support spaces once the facility opens. The multi-story building was designed and will be constructed to meet a minimum of LEED Silver certification. The project broke ground in April 2018 and was completed in the Spring of 2020.

Solution
P2S designed the MEPT and fire protection systems for this new campus centerpiece. Notable sustainable design features include: passive technologies that reduce the need for HVAC use, high efficiency and waterless plumbing fixtures, automatic daylighting, dimming controls, occupancy sensors and energy metering. The P2S Technology team developed AV, IT and security design criteria, schematic design work-ups and construction documents. We designed copper and fiber optic data cabling and terminations; faceplates and termination devices, telecom and AV systems grounding; racks, frames, enclosures, blocks, patch panels and cable management and ladder racks.
