UC Irvine, Medical Science Building C

  • Optimized lab design for optimum medical research

  • Project Overview

The Medical Sciences Building C is a biological and medical research lab at the UCI School of Medicine. Laboratory facilities like these have intensive ventilation needs which are required to safeguard occupant health and safety. Designing mechanical systems for these facilities carries unique challenges, but our lab design team is more than up to the task. They designed a replacement HVAC system for the three-story, 55,853 SF research space, a system that will ensure proper filtration, humidity control and guarantee exceptional indoor air quality.

  • Solution

UCI needs the research at this lab to continue uninterrupted during construction, so we designed the project in phases which will allow the lab to remain fully operational throughout the design and construction process. Besides MEP design services, we’re also providing architectural consulting, structural engineering and wind engineering services for this design-build project, a project our team won through a design-build competition process. Our design features a unique “cluster” lab exhaust system that enhances the air quality of the lab facility and promotes energy efficiency.
