  • Project Overview

Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla has treated patients in San Diego for over 90 years, being the first hospital in the non-profit healthcare system established by Ellen Browning Scripps. To keep their facility in peak form and increase efficiency, the hospital turned to us for a two-part study of their chiller plant and cooling towers and how to best connect central plant utilities to the third phase of the hospitals master plan. After the study, we provided MEP engineering support for the replacement of the hospital central plant chillers and the addition of chilled water distribution piping.

  • Solution

Our team supported the replacement efforts with mechanical, plumbing and electrical design services. The upgraded chillers have a dual purpose, to bring the facility in line with modern efficiency standards and provide additional chilled water capacity for future loads from upcoming buildings, as outlined in the third phase of the hospital’s master plan. Our scope included demolition of the existing mechanical and plumbing equipment in the chiller room, pipe routing, condensate drain design for the new HVAC system and the addition of more piping for chilled water distribution.
