Chiller upgrades boost central plant performance and efficiency
Project Overview
Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas is in coastal north San Diego County and is noted for its orthopedics, primary stroke center, heart failure treatment and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) management. After an analysis of the hospital’s chilled water system, we concluded that the hospital would be best served by replacing its under-performing central plant chillers.
Solution
We provided mechanical, plumbing and fire protection engineering for the replacement of primary and secondary chilled water pumps with one set of new primary variable pumps. Our scope included demolition of the existing mechanical and plumbing equipment in the chiller room, pipe routing, condensate drain design for the new HVAC system and branch piping relocation for the fire protection system.
