Mixed-use dorms integrate students into the broader neighborhood
San Diego State’s South Campus Plaza is the university’s first mixed used dormitory complex. Opening at the beginning of the 2017 spring semester, the two, 6-story buildings have room for 600 students, 34,000 SF of ground-level retail space and an adjacent parking lot. This $143 million, design-build project is LEED Silver designed and our Cx team commissioned the building systems to make sure they were operating at the LEED Silver standards for which they were designed.
Our team used CxAlloy as the standard project communication and documentation management tool. This software allowed for ease and flexibility as we conducted phase reviews, construction phase testing and post occupancy services. Our team verified performance for the Energy Management and Control system (EMS), HVAC systems and controls, domestic hot water system, lighting controls, irrigation controls, emergency power generators, Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS) systems and data and communications systems.
