Mt. San Jacinto College

Temecula Field Act Programming

  • Project Overview

Mt. San Jacinto College sought to transform an existing non-DSA certified, 360,000 SF, 5-story building and supporting central plant into its new Temecula Campus. P2S provided MEP, fire protection, technology, security and AV design for the 180,000 SF campus which includes lab space, classrooms, student services, faculty offices, meeting rooms, a cafeteria, a district MDF and other uses. In addition to engineering services, P2S also provided DSA certification for the new campus, the central plant, and the remaining 180,000 SF which will be leased to other tenants.

  • Solution

The solutions for this project required a creative approach due to the limits of the existing structure in order to allow for new ductwork, lab piping and other utilities to be installed. Additionally, the structural design required major revisions to the existing building systems, which were disassembled to allow new structural components. The revisions, a tight design schedule and the impact of COVID-19 constraints during construction required the team to quickly adapt communication methods and resolve issues as they arose.

The new campus provides the Temecula community with a local college, which is the first permanent higher education campus serving the southwest region of Riverside County. The new campus will benefit the community for decades to come.
