  • Project Overview

Cal Poly Pomona’s Classroom, Library, and Administration (CLA) building is where its existing campus data center was located. This CLA data center functioned as the central point for equipment; serving the voice, data network and digital storage services throughout the campus and beyond. Cal Poly wanted to relocate this data center, planning to build a standalone modular or POD data center solution. The project includes detailed site development, the definition of POD data center technical requirements and the completion of installations to allow for the migration of data center equipment and associated services. P2S was hired as the project’s prime consultant, providing a site survey, schematic design, construction documents, obtaining Fire Marshall approval, DSA approval and other agency approvals.

  • Solution

We designed the new data center’s MEP systems, including site utility and underground utilities lighting and points of connection. Our team designed the POD data center’s telecom and low voltage systems which included campus backbone cabling upgrades and connectivity between the modular data center and the greater campus. As prime consultant, we also coordinated the architectural design, the structural design and the civil design services needed for the data center. These included the modular data center site elements, retaining wall and connection to an access road. We’re also providing bid support and construction administration services to aid in the data center’s construction.
